In the aftermath of the 2024 election, a whole caboodle of people are reliving the five stages of grief. It is a real thing, and it is not just meant to cover deaths. The five stages are: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance.
They are self-explanatory and always follow the same exact path. The first two - "Denial" and "Anger" - are pretty much where most people are right now. It's been ten days since the "joint" went crazy and the anger would subside except every few hours some new bad news jumps out of the television set. I have no idea when they will run out of those "Breaking News" body-punches and let us move on to "Bargaining."
"Bargaining" is a tricky one. It gives us a feeling of helplessness and causes us to head for the liquor cabinet and look for some healing power of "depression." The depression will only last as long as the liquor cabinet has one bottle left.
And then we crawl down the hall to "acceptance." We finally reach the end of the road. We open all of the doors and windows, stand in the middle of the living room, and scream to the top of our lungs, "OKAY, YOU BASTARDS!. . . HAVE IT YOUR WAY! I'M OUTTA' HERE. . . IT'S ALL YOURS!
Then - and only then - will you know true acceptance. Only then will you know true joy. Only then will you know they are going to keep it up until you are forced back to the liquor store!
