Sen. Joe McCarthy |
This is one possible reason: It was 1954. A raid had taken place to root out some guys who were part of a crime ring. A young innocent Seminary student, son of Senator Lester Hunt (D-Wyoming), was caught up in it and was questioned. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. After he was taken to jail and interviewed, he was sent home.
Some time later, an influencial U.S. Senator Joe McCarthy (R-Wisconsin) heard about the arrest of U.S. Sen. Lester Hunt's son and immediately scurried down the hall to the boy's father's office, Sen. Lester Hunt (D-Wyoming). McCarthy told him he got his son's arrest opened up again and all that Sen. Hunt had to do was resign from the U.S. Senate and it would all go away.
The young boy's father was a Democrat Senator and they held a one-vote majority in the U.S. Senate. Sen. Hunt told McCarthiy to "Shove it!" McCarthy ordered the young boy to be arrested and jailed.
McCarthy carried out his threat and young Hunt was fined and released. Sen. Hunt shot and killed himself at his desk some time later in the U.S. Senate chamber.
On Dec. 2, 1954, Sen. McCarthy was censored by the U.S. Senate. for "refusing to cooperate with abusing mombers of, the committee established to investigate whether or not he should be censured. He resigned six months later.
That was 1954's way of doing unscrupulous business. Today, it is undoubtedly much, much worse!
Follow their workings and see if the Republican members will give a "blind eye" to confirm the disastrous nominees the president-elect has made.
Trump says he will put them to work, whether they are confirmed or not.
