I am old enough to remember the days leading up to President Richard Nixon's debacle that pushed him out of office Aug. 9, 1974. From that political explosion until today is how we measure the political landscape in terms of "is this worse than Watergate?" It was our thermometer of America's misery level.
Today, I've thought of how America measures Trump and Company against Nixon. Let me tell you straight out. Tricky Dick Nixon couldn't hold a candle to the crimes of mob boss Trump! There is just no way you could compare the two for honesty, intellect, meanness, and stone-cold treason! Trump tried to take down our government and overturn a presidential election. Nixon said he loved our nation and he was loyal to its constitution. I never saw any evidence that he wanted to end our democracy. It was my opinion that he got caught and instead of ultimately telling the truth, he tried to cover it up - and, of course, that always is the wrong thing to do. He admitted guilt and that is one thing Trump will never be able to do!
As to Donald Trump, he intended to overturn our election to give himself the win and he planned to prosecute a coup on our democracy. . . which he still does! He is a man who doesn't care what he does to get what he wants. If he runs afowl of the law, he expects, with his horde of attorneys, to lie, cheat, and threaten judges to get him free!
Today, we are in a world of hurt. We have him - possibly - for four years. It is my opinion the he is more aggressive than ever to turn our nation into an authoritarian dictatorship! He has put his plan into a book. A manifesto of exactly how he intends to do it. It's called: "Project 2025." He and his underlings speak of the crimes, openly and often!
Finally, I don't think America has been in this much trouble since 1861. The biggest problem right now is there are too many people who have been deceived, lied to, and hornswoggled by Trump, and they are too damn enamored with him to accept the truth. Or, they are too deep into the lie that they don't know how to get out. The real injustice is there are many elected lawmakers in Congress who also fit into this arena
Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble."
