I'm having one of those days like the famous radio personality, Paul Harvey, talked about. He started a club and invited listeners to join. He called the club "No sense worryin' about it 'cause nothin's gonna' turn out alright."
As we walk down the midway of our nation's political circus, that club of Harvey's sounds perfect because there is no reason in the world why anything should turn out alright there.
Maybe you have to be an old coot like me to remember when the air was a little cleaner, the sky was a little blue, the birds seemed a little happier when they sang, and the people were a little friendlier. It just seemed like it was a better place to live!
Today, it seems we have all been bitten by some kind of bug that has turned everyone (except me, of course) into grumps, geezers, and grownup gremlins! We're not happy anymore and we want to make damn sure no one else is, either. We've all decided this is not a nice place to live and we're begining to look for something better. (Canada has always been a favorite with American folks.)
But, to put a finer point on my rant today, our politics can't be blamed for everything. It's a new kind of politics that has stirred us up so much. It's this "hate" that is the burr under everybody's saddle. When anyone heads to the grocery store, medicine shop, or a visit to see the mother-in-law across town, we toss on a burr before we throw on the saddle. It's what we do these days!
We now have a would-be-king who will make the air a little dirtier, the sky a littler browner, the birds a little less cheerful, and, if he should became King - it would make all of us want to show him what we think of him. If we wait just a few minutes, grandma is almost through working on a unique crochet item. Then we'll give it a good test!
