Latest poll shows 21% to 28% of a typical hour of television
IS COMMERCIALS!
Have you noticed the endless time that is devoted to commercials in a typical one hour of television viewing? That means we are grossly interrupted 16.8 minutes during every 60-minutes of why we turned on the television and intended to watch in the first place.
I have also noticed that commercial time is slowly edging higher. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) is an independent U.S. government agency that regulates communications in the United States. It oversees radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable companies, ensuring they adhere to regulations and promoting competitive and innovative markets. The FCC also works to protect consumers and enforce communications laws.
One of their regulations used to be watching how much time each hour of television could be alloted to commercials. I called them the other day and asked if they still did that. They laughed and laughed and laughed. . . until they hung up the phone!
During my working life in the newspaper business, I remember those percentages being much lower. The television advertising industry has grabbed we viewers by the eye balls and slowly-but-surely has been stealing time from why we turned on the damn set in the first place!
I took this problem as a personal battle and decided to put a stop-watch on the scoundrels. I think they got wind of what I was up to and had me black-balled from every cable television supplier between here and New York. I now have to watch the three channel I can legally get on some source called "Todaloo." But, I have no satelite on the roof, no cables running down the side of my house, no cable box, no remote, and no recognizable television channels!
But, I also have no commercials. . . and that makes me a winner!
